Product Description

Asthma is an inflammatory condition of the airways which causes them to narrow in response to a wide range of trigger factors. The narrowing is caused by muscle constriction, inflammation of the lining of the airways and excess mucus production. Common symptoms are coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and difficulty in breathing.

Asthma is the most common chronic illness in children and adolescents and the leading cause of childhood admission to hospitals.

In this 'Speaking From Experience' parents and young people themselves offer candid accounts of their experiences surrounding diagnosis, treatment, schooling, medication, self management and their thoughts on the future.

"The teachers were quite nervous about her being there. Even though she had many days when she wasn't seriously unwell, she still had the ability to have that snap attack which frightened them." Lavinia
